Only few visitors come to my Thatched Cottage which is in the west of Wanli Bridge, but I take accompanied by the Baihua Pond. Before 1200 years ago, the famous poet Du Fu described Chengdu as a mild and gentle poem. Which means that the mentioned historical and cultural place names like the Baihua Pond and Thatched Cottage have been passed down. In tea houses throughout the streets, visitors could enjoy the storyteller’s brilliant performance and the authentic famous tea of Sichuan province. Therefore, the street culture of Chengdu has become an unique street scene, with its special cultural atmosphere and unique leisure throughout local’s daily life.
Zhongshuge, labeled as emphasizing culture, also choose to open a branch bookstore in Chengdu. The bookstore is located in Yintai Center on the Tianfu Avenue. Entering the 4F by escalator, consumers will attracted by the iconic glass wall with full of text. In order to integrate naturally with this charming city, local culture is embodied in the text wall as well.
After the wall there is a space full of “bamboo shaped book shelves”. The wall follows the traditional stable bookshelf shape of Zhongshuge, which makes consumers feel familiar even though it was the first time visit. Small tables on the floor which looks like “bamboo shoots” are active in this vibrant space.
Walk through the “bamboo forest”, on right side, there is the children area, which is a jungle-paradise-like world. On the walls, the houses, windmills and lovely pandas are hiding behind the bamboo forest. “Big Mushrooms” bookshelves scatter on the boardwalk, shielding children who reading books under them. Another iconic mirror ceiling is also applied to this area.
The vaguely visible red brick wall on the left side of the “bamboo forest” is the most distinctive feature in this Zhongshuge. In 5 meters high space, the red brick wall piled up to the top and circled an independent small zones. A walking path is interspersed with it. Rest seats and benches scatter beside the French window, readers would taste a cup of tea while reading favorite books in warm sunny afternoons.
In the end of the small zones, there is the lecture hall. The arbitrary lines form ladders with different heights for walking or sitting. In the reflection of the mirror ceiling, the “terraced fields” are appeared in front of readers.
If you've not been to Chengdu, you will never know how beautiful it is; and if you've not been to Qintai Road, you will never know how ancient Chengdu is. We have enough reason to believe that the story of ancient Qintai will continue, the love story of Wenjun and Xiangru will happen again and again. The same as the story of Zhongshuge will be continuing as well.
